A Squoosh Alternative for Batches, Screenshots and PDFs
Squoosh is a genuinely good tool, built by Google’s Chrome team, and it runs entirely in your browser. So let’s start with the honest part.
”No upload” is not the difference here
Most comparisons on this site lead with the fact that files are never uploaded. Against Squoosh that argument is worthless: Squoosh is client-side too. Your images never leave your device there either.
Both tools use the same lineage of WebAssembly codecs — MozJPEG, libwebp, OxiPNG. On a single image, at the same settings, expect the same output.
So the reasons to use one over the other are practical, not ethical.
Where this tool fits better
Batches. Squoosh is built around one image and a side-by-side preview. Drop twenty images here and they all get processed. If you are preparing a gallery or clearing a folder of screenshots, that is the whole difference.
PDFs. Squoosh is images only. If your actual task is “compress this scanned PDF” or “combine these photos into one document”, it cannot help — see Compress PDF and Images to PDF.
HEIC. iPhone photos in HEIC are a daily annoyance and Squoosh does not decode them. HEIC to JPG does.
Metadata. Stripping EXIF and GPS from a photo before posting it is a specific job with a specific tool here.
One job, one page. Each tool has a page that does that one thing, rather than one interface with every control on it.
Where Squoosh is better
Visual tuning. The side-by-side slider with a live file-size readout is excellent, and there is nothing like it here. If you are deciding by eye exactly how far you can push quality on an image that matters, use Squoosh.
Codec control. Squoosh exposes advanced encoder settings and more formats. This site deliberately ships only the single-threaded codecs, which means no AVIF encoding — AVIF needs multi-threading, which needs cross-origin isolation headers this site does not set. AVIF works as input, not as output.
Reducing colours, dithering, and other fine-grained image surgery. Not offered here.
