What’s new

Every user-visible change, newest first. No accounts and no uploads — just the tools getting better.

  1. A proper phone layout

    • Fixed the big one: headings, text and tool cards ran edge to edge on a phone, with the rounded corners cut off at both sides. Every page now has a real margin.
    • The "Open a tool" button used to wrap onto three lines and spill out of the header over the page. On a phone the header is now just the logo and the menu button.
    • One guide had a comparison table wide enough to cut the right-hand edge off every paragraph below it. Wide tables now scroll on their own and the article stays readable.
    • Tapping "Image tools" or "PDF tools" in the phone menu now lands on the heading instead of underneath the header, and the menu closes behind you.
    • Footer links, page thumbnails in Organize PDF, and the handles for moving a signature are all finger-sized now.
    • Text boxes no longer make iPhones zoom in when you tap them.

  2. A menu you can actually scan

    • The single "Tools" dropdown is now three menus — Images, PDF and Convert — so you land on the right shelf instead of reading past a list of 22 tools.
    • Each menu groups its tools by the job you came to do: edit and organize, secure and sign, optimize and fix.
    • The phone menu now jumps straight to the image or PDF section of the tools page.

  3. AVIF and JPEG XL export

    • The image converter can now output AVIF and JPEG XL, not just JPG, PNG and WebP — both make noticeably smaller files at the same quality.
    • Both encoders run in your browser like everything else, and they download only when you actually pick those formats, so the offline install stays small.

  4. Proof you can check yourself

    • Added a recording of the browser Network tab showing that compressing a photo sends zero requests and uploads zero bytes.
    • Replaced the text description of the data flow with a real diagram: your file goes to WebAssembly and back to your download, and the path to any server is blocked.
    • Rewrote the about page to name the actual engine behind every tool — jSquash, pdf-lib, pdf.js, qpdf, Tesseract — along with the honest limitations.

  5. Guides rebuilt, with answers

    • Every guide now has a table of contents, a reading time, and a direct answer at the top.
    • All 15 guides gained a frequently-asked-questions section, so the common follow-ups are answered on the page.
    • The guides index is now split into image and PDF sections instead of one long list.

  6. Documents you would rather not upload

    • New compliance tools: sign, password-protect, unlock, redact and reorder PDFs — all in the browser.
    • OCR: turn a scanned PDF into one you can actually search and select text in.
    • Repair a corrupt PDF that will not open, add watermarks or page numbers, and crop images.
    • Multi-file results can now be downloaded together as a ZIP.

  7. FileAnvil opens with its first tools

    • Image tools: HEIC to JPG, compress, resize, convert, and strip EXIF and GPS metadata.
    • PDF tools: merge, split, rotate, compress, images to PDF, PDF to images, and remove metadata.
    • Installs as an app and keeps working with the Wi-Fi off — the simplest way to verify nothing is being uploaded.
