How to Convert HEIC to JPG (Windows, Mac & iPhone, 2026)

To convert HEIC to JPG on any device, open the HEIC to JPG converter in your browser, drop your photos, and download the JPGs — free, with no upload. Windows and Mac can also convert natively, but the browser method works everywhere and your photos never leave your device.

If you’ve ever emailed an iPhone photo to someone on Windows and heard “I can’t open it,” you’ve met HEIC. Since iOS 11, iPhones save photos in this space-saving format by default — but plenty of apps and websites still expect JPG. Here’s how to convert, on any device.

The fastest way: convert in your browser (no upload)

The simplest option is a browser-based converter that processes the file on your device, so nothing is uploaded:

1. Open the HEIC to JPG converter.
2. Drag your .heic photos onto the page.
3. Download the JPGs.

Because the conversion runs locally with WebAssembly, it works even with your Wi-Fi off — and your photos never touch a server. That matters if the picture is personal or work-related.

On a Mac

macOS can convert without any extra software:

• Open the photo in Preview, then choose File → Export and pick JPEG as the format.
• Or select photos in Finder, right-click, and use Quick Actions → Convert Image.

On Windows

Windows doesn’t convert HEIC out of the box, but you can:

• Open the file in Paint, then Save As → JPEG (requires the HEIF extension from the Microsoft Store), or
• Use the browser converter above — no installs, no store extensions.

On iPhone (before you even send)

You can make your iPhone capture JPG directly: Settings → Camera → Formats → Most Compatible. Existing HEIC photos still need converting, but new ones will be JPG.

Which should you pick?

If you’re converting one or two photos on your own Mac, Preview is fine. If you’re on Windows, converting a batch, or the photos are sensitive, the in-browser converter is usually the least-friction, most-private choice.
