How to Split a PDF or Extract Pages (Without Uploading It)

Updated Jul 23, 2026 1 min read No upload — runs in your browser

To split a PDF, open the Split PDF tool in your browser, drop the file, choose the page ranges you want, and download the pieces. The document stays on your device — nothing is uploaded.

Often you don’t need to send a whole document — just pages 3–5, or every chapter as its own file. Splitting locally means the pages you don’t share never leave your machine either.

Split in your browser

  1. Open Split PDF.
  2. Drop the PDF on the page.
  3. Enter the page range(s) you want — e.g. 1-3, or 5, or several at once.
  4. Download the resulting file(s). Nothing was uploaded.

Extract vs split

Two jobs, one tool:

  • Extract — pull out just the pages you need (say 2-4) and get a single, shorter PDF. This is the common case: sending one section instead of the whole file.
  • Split — break a document into multiple files by range, so each part downloads separately.

When splitting is the better fix

If a PDF is too large to email, people reach for compression first — but for a text document that often barely helps. Sending only the pages the recipient needs is usually smaller and more considerate than crushing the quality of the whole thing. See compress a PDF to a target size for when a size cap is the real constraint.

  • Merge PDF — the reverse: join files back together
  • Organize PDF — delete and reorder pages visually
  • Compress PDF — shrink what’s left if it’s still too big

Frequently asked questions

Can I pull out just specific pages?

Yes — choose the pages or ranges you want and get them as a new PDF, or split the document into separate files.

Is the document uploaded to be split?

No. Splitting happens in your browser, so the file is never sent to a server — useful for statements or records where only some pages should be shared.

Does splitting change the original?

No — it creates new files and leaves your source PDF untouched.

Can I extract one page to send to someone?

Yes — pull a single page or a range out and share just that, without exposing the rest of the document.
